Members may participate as much or as little in the process. Some members will want to be more interested in grantmaking, providing technical assistance to organizations, or simply recruiting more members, etc. Attendance and participation on committees are encouraged, but not required.
All members have equal voting rights. Each member is entitled to one vote. Votes may be cast in-person or via email. Member voting rights are activated once one full year’s contribution of $250 has been received.
Funding Principles
The Lunar Giving Circle will fund nonprofit Asian American Pacific Islander organizations or organizations serving Asian American Pacific Islander populations so long as they are a 501(c)(3) charity or have a fiscal sponsor. Eligible organizations will be geographically located in the Northern California area, with a primary emphasis within the greater Bay Area.
Non-Member Contributions
Individuals wishing to contribute to the Lunar Giving Circle as a non-Member may do so. There is no minimum contribution for non-members.
Matching donations are accepted, however, no additional votes are granted to the member.
Organization Structure
Members of the Lunar Giving Circle perform four primary functions:
* Member Education
* Strategic Planning for Positive Social Change
* Grantmaking
* Nonprofit/Capacity Building
Our work is member-driven and voluntary. Some of our members wish to be hands-on and participate fully in all the primary functions. Others prefer to give their time to certain functions. In addition, there are members who just believe in our work and contribute financially.
